Pittsboro Photography : Athena turns 1

Oh, what fun!  Athena turns ONE!  So it was off to my photography studio near Pittsboro, North Carolina for her cake smash.  All decked out in her pink birthday party hat and pink tutu, Athena loved being the center of attention.  She was a little hesitant but ended up loving her little pink cake.  Amazingly, she didn’t make a huge mess.  She just daintily dipped her fingers in the frosting.

Her perfectly pink cake was made by Phoenix Bakery in Pittsboro, NC.  If you’re in the area, stop in and try their beer bread or doughnuts.  They are so delicious.

Love the cake collage below?  It’s made to be printed as a 16×20, perfect for displaying in her “big girl” room now that she’s not a baby.

Pittsboro Parade 2015

Pittsboro Parade 2015

On December 13th, we headed out to the Pittsboro parade.  While I love that we aren’t having cold and icy weather, wearing a t-shirt to a Christmas parade makes me feel a little grinchy.  I wanted sweaters and boots and Santa hats.  Instead it’s t-shirts and flip flops.  It just doesn’t help get me in the Christmas spirit.

Small town parades are the best.  You always bump into someone you know.  Someone will call out your name from a parade float- this year, my oldest son’s teacher was in the parade.  Having her yell out “Hey, Tristan!” made his day.  Plus you can never go wrong with free candy.

The floats all looked great and we had a wonderful time.  If you’re near Pittsboro, be sure to check out the parade next year then visit all the shops in the area.

Pittsboro Photographer : Christmas Minis

Pittsboro Photographer : Christmas Minis

Christmas mini session by Pittsboro photographer, Katie Smith.

This year’s Christmas mini sessions were a huge hit. All the kids were super cute and so much fun to hang out with.  These are a few of my favorites from two of the sessions from that day.

The silver and gold theme was so much fun to create.  If you love the silver and gold medallions, I found the tutorial at here.  They are super easy to make, especially with leftover wrapping paper!  You can use them to decorate for birthdays, Christmas, or just as a fun craft.

The kids loved the fake snow and throwing the snowballs.  This year I used the plastic snow confetti but if you do the ‘snow blowing’ pose outside, mashed potato flakes make a great snow substitute as seen in 2013’s Christmas minis.  It’s much better for the environment too.

Thank you to everyone that came out.  I can’t wait to get the studio in full swing next year for the monthly milestone minis and themed mini sessions.  Be sure to sign up for the monthly mailing list for first dibs on upcoming mini sessions.
