I’ve met this mom and the youngest boy before and I’m so glad she came back to see me.  This time, we met at Ogletree Gap in Copperas Cove for family pictures. Getting to meet all four of them was wonderful.  They are so photogenic and the boys are redheads (little known fact: I love red hair).  I love the warm, fall colors of their outfits that go beautifully with the colors in the park.   It was a dream session even if I wore the littlest guy out.

Thanks so much, P family, for having me take your family portraits!

Meet JP

Meet JP

Meet JP.  He loves superheroes, cars, and Spongebob.  He is fighting a brave battle against Ewing’s sarcoma.  It’s awe-inspiring and downright frightening to hear a child talk about chemo like it’s a trip to the grocery store and talking about getting a new leg like picking out new shoes.  I was amazed at his upbeat attitude, wonderful manners, and just being a great kid.  He’s been dealt a tough hand.  I follow his story and learn all the obstacles he faces then overcomes.  A truly amazing hero in such a small little boy.

I talked to his mom over several phone calls as we had to reschedule due to unforeseen hospital stays and I’ve been amazed by her strength and the cheer in her voice.  I cannot even begin to imagine what she’s going through.  Being able to smile in the face of uncertainity, especially when it involves your child’s health, is the definition of strength and bravery in motherhood.

Soon JP will be undergoing surgery to aputate the leg the cancer is in.  If you’re the praying type, send one up for JP and his family as they start the long journey of healing.

September is childhood cancer awareness month.  Take some time to reach out to the children with cancer and their parents that face hard decisions every day.  Read up on ways you can support funding for researching a cure.  Even one child fighting cancer is too many.

Thank you, JP and family, for giving me the honor of photographing your family.  You’ll be on my mind and in my heart forever.

I love photographing on the playground.  For me, it’s a field day of fun compositional elements. I love changing up angles and using the lines of the equipment to bring focus to the child. I love the framing and I love the colors of the equipment. And I always get a fun work out climbing around the stairs and sliding slides and racing to get to the perfect location before the kid changes his mind and heads for a different part of the playground.

For the kids, it’s always the best session ever. Their smiles and giggles are genuine and they never get bored of taking pictures.  I love seeing the excitement on their face when I say we can go to the playground now.

This guy was perfect for this session.  Isn’t he a little heart breaker?  I just love his smile and his hair.  If it wasn’t for my own incredibly cute five year old, he might be the cutest five year old I’ve ever met.  He has the greatest personality too.  I love his outfit too.  A simple yellow t-shirt under a dark blue hoodie that has a yellow emblem on it- PERFECT for a little boy on the playground.  Not overdressed but not under-dressed either.  Thanks E for hanging out with me!  It was great meeting you!
