Branding Photography Session with Blue Toby
Every now and then, I get to work on a branding photography session that reminds me why planning a session with intention matters so much.
The Blue Toby photo session was one of those days.
This wasn’t a quick headshot or a handful of images for social media. This was a full-scale brand shoot designed to support a growing business, elevate visibility, and create a library of images that could work hard for years to come.
And it started with a very intentional choice.
Step One: Choosing the Right Space
Instead of using a studio, my client rented a home in Wake Forest specifically for the session.
That decision alone made a huge difference.
The home gave us:
- Natural light in every direction
- Clean, neutral spaces that photographed beautifully
- Multiple rooms for different looks and layouts
- An elevated feel that fit her brand perfectly

For brands that want to look established, polished, and editorial, location matters. A well-chosen Airbnb will instantly elevate the final results at your branding photography session.
Step Two: Casting the “Talent”
Yes, we had five dog models.
I handled sourcing each of them.
I used my local network and posted in community groups, then personally reviewed each applicant. I asked questions about temperament, basic training, and reliability, because when you’re photographing all day, showing up on time and being able to settle into a new space matters.
Each selected dog owner placed a small deposit to hold their spot and received modeling compensation for their time. Those costs were reimbursed by my client, and everything was coordinated in advance so the day ran smoothly.
That extra planning paid off.

Each dog brought something different to the session, from size and coat color to personality and energy. That variety allowed us to create images that felt full, intentional, and true to the brand instead of repetitive or staged.
This is one of those behind-the-scenes details many business owners don’t think about at first, but it makes a real difference. When your brand serves a wide audience, your imagery should reflect that range.
Asking the right questions and planning ahead is what makes a shoot like this possible.

Step Three: A Full Day of Photographing With a Purpose
We photographed all day, and every part of it was planned.
This wasn’t about winging it or hoping something good happened. We worked through a shot list, moved room to room as the light changed, and captured a mix of:
- Website-ready images
- Editorial-style photos
- Detail shots
- Storytelling moments
- Clean, flexible images that could be used again and again

The goal was simple. Create a complete image library that could support her business wherever it showed up.
Where Those Images Are Now
This is the part I love most.
Those photos are now:
- Featured throughout her website
- Used in magazine articles written about her
- Supporting press features and professional opportunities
- Giving her brand a consistent, polished visual identity
That’s what “next level” brand photography looks like in real life.
Not just pretty photos, but images that actively work for your business.

What I Want Other Business Owners to Take From This
You might not need a shoot like this right now.
But if you’re feeling like:
- Your business has outgrown your current photos
- You’re being featured more and want to look as professional as you are
- You’re ready to show up confidently instead of scrambling for images
- You want your brand to feel established, not improvised
This is what it can look like when you invest intentionally.
Thoughtful planning. The right location. The right people (and dogs). And photography that supports where you’re going, not just where you are today.
The Takeaway
The Blue Toby session wasn’t successful because it was long or elaborate.
It worked because it was designed.
Designed around the brand.
Designed around the goals.
Designed to create images with a long shelf life.
That’s always my focus.
If you’ve been thinking, “I need something more than what I have now,” this is your sign that you’re probably right.
And when you’re ready, I’d love to help you build it. Check out the branding page to learn more then request the branding info guide!
